If you’ve been thinking about booking family photos, one of the biggest questions is usually this—
should we do a studio session or go outdoors?
And honestly… there’s no wrong answer.
It really just depends on your family, your season of life, and the kind of experience you want.
So I’m breaking it down in a really real, no-pressure way to help you decide what feels like you

Studio sessions are one of my favorite options for families, especially if you’re wanting something simple, relaxed, and stress-free.
No worrying about weather
No rescheduling
No chasing the sunset with tired kids
It’s calm, controlled, and really focused on connection.
Studio sessions tend to feel a little more intimate.
More snuggles, more closeness, more of those quiet in-between moments.

Outdoor sessions have a completely different kind of magic.
They’re playful, open, and full of movement—perfect for kids who want to run, explore, and just be themselves.

These sessions usually start about an hour before sunset to get that soft, dreamy light and go all the way through until the sun dips.
Here’s the honest answer:
But also…
you don’t have to choose forever.
A lot of my families rotate between both depending on the season they’re in, and it’s honestly the best way to document your life in a really full way.

Whether we’re in a studio or outside, my sessions are always centered around connection.
I’m not going to overly pose you or expect your kids to sit perfectly still.
I’ll guide you with prompts, little games, and moments that feel natural so your photos actually feel like your family.
You don’t have to show up perfect.
You just have to show up.
I’ll take care of the rest

If you’re leaning toward one or the other (or still unsure), I’m always happy to help you decide based on your family and what season you’re in.
