I will forever be the person who says your couples photos do not have to look like everyone else’s.

Give me a fun idea, a little bit of a vision, and two people willing to just go with it, and I am IN.

For this session, we went with a strawberry-inspired theme, and it ended up being one of those shoots that reminded me exactly why I love getting creative with couples sessions. It was playful, romantic, a little nostalgic, and completely different from your typical couples photos.

And honestly, those are usually my favorite sessions to photograph.

A Couples Session Built Around a Strawberry Theme

This strawberry themed Wisconsin couples photoshoot was all about creating something playful, romantic, and a little nostalgic. Instead of a traditional session filled with posed photographs, we leaned into a creative date inspired by strawberries, capturing genuine connection, movement, and the little moments that make a session feel personal.

When we started planning this session, I knew I didn’t want the strawberry theme to feel overly styled or like we were setting up a giant Pinterest photoshoot.

I wanted it to still feel like a real date between the two of them—just with a little extra personality woven into it.

The strawberries added the perfect pop of color and gave us something fun to incorporate throughout the session without taking away from what I actually wanted to photograph: the two of them together.

Because even when we have a really specific concept, the connection between you two will always be the most important part.

Making Your Couples Photos Feel Like You

This is exactly why I love planning sessions beyond just picking a pretty location.

Your photos can be inspired by something you love, an activity you do together, a certain season, an old movie, a random date-night idea. Honestly just something you saw and thought, that would be really freaking cute.

It doesn’t necessarily have to have some huge sentimental meaning behind it.

Sometimes we can just do something because it sounds fun.

For this session, the strawberries gave us something to play around with while still leaving plenty of room for movement, cuddling, laughing, and all of those little in-between moments that make a gallery feel natural.

Less Posing, More Actually Being Together

If you look through my couples galleries, you’ll probably notice there isn’t a whole lot of standing next to each other and smiling directly at my camera.

That’s intentional.

Of course I’ll give you direction throughout your session—you definitely don’t have to show up magically knowing what to do with your hands—but I would much rather give you something to do than put you into a pose and tell you not to move.

I want the wind in your hair. I want the weird laugh you make when your person does something ridiculous. I want the blurry running photos, the forehead kisses, the way you naturally reach for each other.

All of the things that actually feel like you.

Why I Love Creative Couples Sessions

There will always be a place in my heart for a gorgeous open field at golden hour, but sessions like this make me want to keep pushing outside of the traditional couples-session box.

A strawberry-themed date. A carnival. Painting together in a field. A record store. An old drive-in. Running around downtown. Bringing your guitar somewhere beautiful.

There are SO many ways we can make your session feel different.

And when we build your photos around an experience instead of a list of poses, you get to walk away with more than pretty pictures.

You get a memory together, too.

Planning a Unique Couples Session in Wisconsin

If you’ve been wanting photos together but keep thinking, I want to do something different, please bring me your ideas.

Seriously.

They don’t have to be completely figured out before you reach out. Part of the fun is taking a tiny idea and figuring out how we can turn it into an entire session that feels like the two of you.

Whether that means something playful like this strawberry-themed couples session or something completely different, I’m always up for creating something that feels a little outside the box.

If you’re looking for a Wisconsin couples photographer who focuses on candid moments, movement, connection, and photos that feel a little cinematic, I would absolutely love to hear what you’re dreaming up.
