If you’re wondering when to book your session, you’re not alone. Between doctor appointments, nursery planning, baby showers, and everything else that comes with preparing for a new baby, maternity photos can feel like just one more thing to figure out.
The good news? Timing your maternity session is actually pretty simple.
For most moms, the best time for maternity photos is between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. During this stage, your baby bump is beautifully visible, but you’re usually still comfortable enough to enjoy the experience.
Let’s talk about why that timing works so well and how to make the most of your maternity session.

Every pregnancy is different, but there is a sweet spot when it comes to maternity photography.
If you schedule your session too early, your bump may not be as noticeable in photos. If you wait until the very end of your pregnancy, you may be feeling more tired, uncomfortable, or simply ready to meet your baby.
The goal is to capture this special season when your pregnancy is clearly visible while helping you feel comfortable and confident throughout your session.
For most expecting moms, I recommend scheduling maternity photos between 28 and 34 weeks.
During this time:
This window consistently gives us the best balance of comfort and beautiful results.
Every pregnancy is unique, and every baby bump grows a little differently.
If this is your first pregnancy, you may find that your bump takes a little longer to really pop. Many first-time moms love scheduling their session closer to 32–34 weeks.
If you’ve been pregnant before, you may start showing earlier. In many cases, scheduling around 28–32 weeks works beautifully.
No matter where you are in your journey, we’ll choose a timeframe that feels right for you and highlights your bump at its best.

One thing I want every client to know is that maternity photos shouldn’t feel stressful.
You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to spend hours searching for the perfect outfit. And you definitely don’t need to worry about looking awkward in front of the camera.
My goal is to make the entire experience feel relaxed and enjoyable from start to finish.
Before your session, I’ll help guide you through location options, outfit choices, and planning details so you feel completely prepared.
One of my favorite parts of the maternity experience is offering access to my client closet.
Many moms tell me that finding something to wear is one of the biggest sources of stress when planning maternity photos. Instead of purchasing a dress you’ll likely only wear once, you’ll have access to a collection of beautiful maternity gowns selected specifically for photography.
These dresses are chosen to flatter growing baby bumps, photograph beautifully, and help you feel confident throughout your session.
Whether you’re looking for something soft and romantic, timeless and elegant, or flowing and dramatic, you’ll have options that help bring your vision to life.
One of the things I love most about photographing maternity sessions in southeastern Wisconsin is that every season offers something beautiful.
Fresh blooms, soft colors, and new growth make spring a lovely time for maternity photos.
Long evenings, warm weather, and golden sunsets create a beautiful backdrop for outdoor sessions.
Fall is one of the most popular times of year for maternity photography. The colorful leaves, comfortable temperatures, and warm golden light create stunning images.
Snow-covered landscapes can create simple, timeless portraits that feel cozy, elegant, and uniquely Wisconsin.
If you have your heart set on a particular season, it’s always a good idea to book early.
Families in the Mukwonago area are lucky to have access to some incredible outdoor locations.
The natural beauty of the Kettle Moraine area offers rolling hills, wooded trails, open fields, and gorgeous sunset views that photograph beautifully throughout the year.
Whether you envision a golden summer evening, colorful fall scenery, or a peaceful winter backdrop, there are plenty of beautiful locations to create meaningful images that celebrate this season of your life.

Even though your maternity session may take place between 28 and 34 weeks, I always recommend reaching out during your second trimester.
Booking early allows us to:
Many expecting moms are surprised by how quickly calendars fill, especially during the busy summer and fall seasons.
I recommend reaching out during your second trimester whenever possible. This gives us plenty of time to plan your session and reserve your preferred date.
For most moms, the sweet spot is between 28 and 34 weeks. This timing allows your bump to be beautifully visible while helping you stay comfortable during your session.
The best outfit is one that makes you feel confident and comfortable. When you book a session with me, you’ll also have access to my client closet, which includes maternity gowns selected specifically for photography.
Absolutely. Including your partner helps tell the story of this exciting chapter and creates meaningful images you’ll both treasure.
Yes! Including older children often creates some of the sweetest and most emotional moments during a session.
You are not alone. Almost every mom tells me this before her session.
The good news is that you don’t need any modeling experience. I’ll guide you through natural poses and prompts so you never have to wonder what to do.
Wisconsin weather can be unpredictable, which is why I always have a backup plan. If needed, we’ll reschedule or adjust our plans to ensure you still have a beautiful experience.
Not at all. While 28–34 weeks is generally ideal, beautiful maternity photos can be taken later in pregnancy as well. If you’re farther along, reach out as soon as possible so we can find a date that works.
Pregnancy passes by faster than most moms expect. Maternity photos are a chance to slow down for a moment and celebrate the incredible journey of bringing a new life into the world.
If you’re expecting and thinking about scheduling maternity photos in the Mukwonago area, I’d love to help create an experience that feels relaxed, beautiful, and meaningful.
From access to the client closet to guidance every step of the way, my goal is to help you feel confident, comfortable, and excited to document this unforgettable season of life.
